Customer Problem | Pain Point:
A customer within the Water industry reached out to Proto-1 for a solution. They wanted to produce copper tees and elbows stateside for plumbing systems for their global customer base. At the time, they lacked the machinery necessary to produce the large quantities that they needed to keep up with demand.
Engineering A Solution:
After the copper tee or elbow was pre-beaded in the custom 3-headed RAM, they would then be transferred to another machine for a final beading process. Much like the 3-headed RAM, Proto-1 designed and manufactured a machine for the beading process. This machine, rather than a ram, was a rotary machine. Designed using our CAM rotary tube end forming platform, this machine had 3 spinners that would move into the tees. Once inside the spinners would rotate and then move off their center of rotation and push into the copper thus forming the bead.
Final Tube Forming Solution Delivered to Customer:
The 3-headed CAM and RAM machines proved to be the ideal cell for the customer. With both machines in place, the customer had the equipment necessary to maintain throughput and quantity requirements.
