Saw Operator

Job Title: Metal Cut-off Saw Operator

Hourly Position: Required 40 hour work week

Standard Work Hours:  Monday through Friday 6:30am to 3:00pm (Flexible hours available)

Reports to: Machine Shop Lead

Works closely with: Purchasing, Product Control/Scheduling, Inventory Control, Machinists, Quality Management, Shipping Receiving

Position Summary: Under general direction from the Machine Shop Lead, the operator will set-up and operate metal sawing machines, for example bandsaw, hacksaw, and circular saw or other similar equipment to cut metal stock to dimensions while maintaining accurate raw metal stock inventory.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Read job orders and engineering drawings to ensure they match order requests and identify specifications for material type, size of stock, quantity and dimensions to be cut to optimally utilize material
  • Performs standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work
  • Obtains and transfers stock to designated stock and machine areas manually or with hoist or overhead crane or via forklift
  • Installs saw blades and sets blade tension and cutting speed for specified operation
  • Sets stops and guides and blade angle to control dimension of cut
  • Responsible for safe operation of equipment and make sure preventative maintenance items have been performed on the equipment to be used
    • Work with maintenance to perform preventative maintenance on equipment
    • Complete a Maintenance Request Form when necessary and advise immediate supervisor of any immediate problems
  • Monitors the quality of the material produced.
    • Check the first piece ran on each order and periodically throughout larger runs.
    • Notify the shop manager of any problems in manufacturing the product
    • Accurately complete necessary paperwork such as Quality Check lists
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations including:
    • Notifies immediate supervisor of any unsafe conditions in the workplace
    • Safety glasses
    • Ear plugs (if required)
    • Steel toe shoes required
    • Practice good housekeeping habits
    • Follow procedural guidelines in all areas of operation
  • Prepare and maintain daily time card utilizing the Shop System with complete information on accomplished tasks
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for stock metal
    • Record receipts, stock to job, job to stock, inventory transfers and movements in ERP System
    • Notify Inventory control and Purchasing of inventory inconsistencies
  • Subject to any and all miscellaneous work related duties requested by immediate supervisor

 

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Back-up to Laser/HeatTreat/Grinding
    • Cross trained to fill in when primary is gone and demand requires need

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Equivalent to high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years of machine shop experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of machine shop equipment and processes used in a manufacturing environment.
  • Read and interpret shop drawings
  • Demonstrates basic math skills with use of a calculator.
  • Required to use and read a tape measure, micrometer, and a Vernier Caliper
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and complete tasks independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with staff.
  • High degree of personal initiative
  • Resourceful, accurate and highly organized with an attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage, prioritize and balance multiple tasks
  • Must be flexible, able to adjust schedule and pitch-in as needed
  • Must be able to work overtime
  • Forklift Operator Certified (Will Train in House)
  • Valid Driver’s License

 

Physical and Environmental Elements:

  • This is a production department classification and employee’s work in a plant environment with moderate to high noise levels, non-controlled temperature conditions and must stand and/or walk for approximately 6 – 8 hours per shift and lifts up to 65
  • Must have your own tools typical of what would be required to sufficiently perform the normal duties of a machinist trade.

CNC Machinist

Job Title: CNC Machinist

Hourly Position: Required 40-hour work week

Standard Work Hours:  Flexible Hours

Reports to: Machine Shop Lead

Works closely with: Engineering, Quality Management and Assembly

Position Summary: Under general direction from the Machine Shop Lead, manufacture parts using many different types of machines/tools in a large machine shop; fabricates various types and sizes of steel according to specifications based on client’s expectations, work standards, and Proto-1 quality standards.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performing highly skilled and high-precision machine and bench work as required, utilizing CNC lathes, milling machines, grinding machines, drilling machines, and metal saws
  • Work from and in accordance with specifications and design criteria including but not limited to verbal instructions, shop orders, and drawings; performs standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, speeds, and feeds of machining. Ensure drawings match order requests
  • Responsible for safe operation of equipment and make sure preventative maintenance items have been performed on the equipment to be used
  • Monitors the quality of the material produced.
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations

 

Preferred Qualifications
